The Council has 64 members, two thirds of whom are registered teachers.

All of the elected teacher and nominated members hold office for four years. The term of office for current elected and nominated members began on 1st September 2008 and ends on 31 August 2012.

Those members appointed by the Secretary of State (Public Appointees) hold office for terms of four years. Their term of office commnced on 1 September 2009.
