The General Teaching Council for England met on Wednesday 3 October 2007 at the Centennial Centre, 100 Icknield Port Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, B16 0AA.
Council approved the minutes of the previous meeting, as an accurate record and noted the standard decision tracking paper setting out progress in actioning previous decisions.
The Chair and Vice Chairs’ diaries were noted plus feedback from Council’s representatives on outside bodies.
Council received a verbal report by the Chief Executive, Keith Bartley.
Council confirmed their decision to establish an award in memory of its founding chief Executive, Carol Adams. Council deferred a final decision regarding the specification of the award pending a paper to January 2008 Council exploring the possibility of combining continuing professional development / promotion of Equality and Diversity into one award to be administered along the lines of the Teaching Awards Trust Framework.
Council received a report on the Review of Governance. Council noted the outcome of the Member processes undertaken since July and approved that the Chair and Vice -Chair of Council act as ex-officio Chair and Vice-Chair of the Executive Committee.
Council noted the Summary of work of Committees, being the beginning of the Council year this only included the report back from the Audit, Monitoring and Review Committee, Council endorsed the recommendations set out in section 2 of the appendix.
Council noted the report on Financial and Service Monitoring.
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 22 January 2008 at Woburn House, London.
