The GTC has worked with local teachers, schools and local authorities to encourage all teachers to take part in continuing professional development (CPD) throughout their careers.

The GTC’s Networks gave support and resources to teachers to help them develop professionally. CPD is becoming more personalised and the Networks have supported this through specific projects; for example, working with teachers with an interest in special educational needs.

Teacher Learning Academy
The GTC also created the Teacher Learning Academy (TLA), which helped schools and teachers to achieve professional excellence and gain recognition for their achievements.

The GTC has worked closely with organisations such as the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) on CPD issues. We have also advised Government on building teacher expertise, through both initial teacher training and CPD.
