Cartes cochons
Following on from last term’s piece about primary French resource La semaine de Berthe, Nottinghamshire teacher Alison Middleton writes to tell us about Cartes cochons, the small company she runs that develops and sells resources in French, Spanish and German. Materials include badges, stickers, bookmarks, photocopiable books and cards, plus Allez hop! Chantez!, a CD of 30 French songs sung by a native French speaker, with accompanying teachers' guide.
Jargon buster
If you have KS3 students who are baffled by science jargon, then William’s words might be the resource for you. Developed by teacher William Hirst from Longsands school, St Neots, it defines more than 13,000 words used in teaching the subject. Dr Hirst, who has been teaching for 20 years following a successful career in biochemistry and the pharmaceutical industry, says: “This book grew out of the idea that science has a working language, with its own vocabulary and syntax. Ideas cannot be understood nor remembered unless the words of science are explained clearly.”
The dictionary is available for £14 from www.smallwords.co.uk, a still-developing website that already contains many word games and literary tasks.
