Booking now
The nationwide series of events on Every Child Matters and the values of teaching have been very well subscribed, becoming fully booked within a few days of advertisement. We are now working through your feedback so far, and looking forward to the feedback from the spring events.
Our series of teacher conferences on assessment was highly successful too. We are planning a national conference, to help inform the House of Commons Select Committee hearings on assessment, in London in March, and further regional events later in the year.
We are also holding an evening teacher meeting in Cheltenham on Tuesday 27 March. This meeting will be of particular interest to teachers who lead on continuing professional development in their school. To book your free place at any of these events, phone 08457 363 1478 or visit the Events section.
If possible, have your teacher reference number (TRN) to hand when you book. Your TRN is printed on your registration card and also on the cover letter that accompanies this magazine.
Say thank you
Do you know an inspirational teacher, head teacher, teaching assistant or school governor? Say ‘thank you’ by nominating them for a Teaching Award.
The Teaching Awards is an annual celebration of teaching and learning. It recognises outstanding people in education and rewards those who change lives for the better.
Schools too can be nominated – this year the team category is for the DfES Teaching Award for Sustainable Schools.
Anyone can make a nomination online at the Teaching awards website.
It is a quick and easy process that only takes a few minutes, but provides a unique opportunity to give teachers and schools the recognition they deserve.
There are five good reasons to nominate.
1. Teachers transform lives and help young people realise their potential.
2. Outstanding work goes on in schools every day – and this is a chance to shout about it.
3. Winning a Teaching Award is a celebration for the whole school community.
4. The Teaching Awards gives schools the opportunity to network and share expertise.
5. Teachers are passionate about teaching and learning – this is an opportunity to celebrate excellence in education.
Plowden revisited
The biggest independent enquiry into primary education in England for almost 40 years is now underway. Led by Prof. Robin Alexander of the University of Cambridge, the Primary Review will run for two years.
With the aim of being the most thorough investigation of primary education since the Plowden Report of 1967, the review will examine how well the current system of primary education is doing, and how it can be improved. It will also consider how primary schools should respond to the national and global challenges that lie ahead. Along the way, the Review will assess the impact of the many government primary education initiatives of the past 20 years.
Submissions to the review can be made up to Thursday 1 March this term. For more information see the Primary Preview website.
