GTC Chair Judy Moorhouse sets the scene
Welcome to the summer issue of Teaching: The GTC Magazine.
First, may I extend a very warm welcome to the GTC’s newly appointed Chief Executive, Keith Bartley, who took up his post in March.
Keith has been involved in education throughout his career and comes to us from Oxfordshire, where he was the County Council’s Director for Children, Young People and Families. In an in-depth interview in Chapter 2, Keith sets out his vision for the future of the GTC and shares his enthusiasm for the profession.
Are you similarly passionate about teaching? Would you like to be more involved in helping to boost standards of teaching and learning? Do you want to have a say in what happens to your profession in the future? If the answer is yes, I have one more question for you: have you considered standing for election to the GTC?
For those of you who are tempted, but uncertain about the responsibilities of the role, read the interviews with sitting Council members in chapter 3. While the experience has been unique for each of my colleagues, what they have in common is how worthwhile an opportunity it has been for them, both personally and professionally. We will be calling for nominations in October, with elections held next February and March. Find out more in chapter 3.
And finally, most of you will be aware by now of the sad death of our founding Chief Executive, Carol Adams, who died in January this year, after retiring from her post last autumn. Carol is greatly missed by all of us who had the privilege of working alongside her. We pay tribute to her legacy in chapter 9.
