Good teaching needs good networks and good networks need good teachers.

The GTC Networks provide support by linking teachers nationally and putting them in touch with the latest research and evidence. They let teachers have a voice at national debates on changes to education.


Research from the NCSL on effective leadership of multi-ethnic schools

The report ‘Effective Leadership in Multi-Ethnic Schools’ explores the strategies of effective leadership of schools in which a substantial proportion of students are from minority ethnic communities.

It highlights three key findings.

1. Successful school leadership in multi-ethnic schools is based on the articulation and implementation of explicit values that promote an agenda of equality, fairness and respect, and commitment to principles of social justice.

2. School leaders in multi-ethnic schools project their leadership beyond the school and into the wider community, are well known in their communities and are respected for the way in which they work with community representatives and respond to community needs. Significant resources are devoted to ensuring that parents and the wider community participate fully in the life of the school.

3. School leadership is shaped decisively by context. Issues of ethnicity have an important role to play in forming that context. The unique ways in which local community factors affect parental choices are recognised.
