March 2005
This month’s idea is from Kate Stapleford, year 5 teacher, Northern Parade Junior, Portsmouth.
Kate reports that her schools is benefiting from successfully managing the use of “Keeping Track”, the e-portfolio on teachernet (http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/development/index.cfm?pageID=53).
Every term, the school sets aside one staff meeting for CPD. During this meeting, about 15 minutes are allocated for teachers to update their own CPD diary on teachernet. This is long enough for teachers to record the different types of CPD that they have accessed during the term. The records could be useful for processes such as Investors in People, performance management and Threshold.
Kate was given a bursary by her LEA to develop a CPD package for primary schools. She has worked with the LEA advisor for CPD and secondary colleagues so that they now have an approach to CPD that has been welcomed by both primary and secondary teachers.
