Introducing the GTC Networks.

Good teaching needs good networks and good networks need good teachers.

The GTC Networks provide support by linking teachers nationally and putting them in touch with the latest research and evidence. They let teachers have a voice at national debates on changes to education.

One CPD idea that works: School CPD newsletter

February 2006

This idea comes from Rosemary Shuttlewood, Continuing Professional Development Coordinator, Wellingborough School.

‘......but I do know someone who can!’

How many times have we heard resourceful people say this? Chances are that such people not only build up formal and informal networks but they also keep some sort of record or ‘little black book’.

Rosemary's colleagues share their professional learning, CPD information and contacts through a termly CPD newsletter.

In this internal communication, Rosemary presents various forms of CPD that have taken place over the last term and some summaries and evaluations of courses and training. She also highlights forthcoming CPD events and opportunities.

Some of the benefits of an internal CPD newsletter might include:

Rosemary reports that staff feedback has been most encouraging:

It's really useful to see the wide range of CPD activities that are undertaken by colleagues; there is much more than just one-day courses. It's encouraged me to reflect more clearly on my own professional development needs.

She also says how valuable she finds the ‘One CPD idea that works’ mailing and she is looking forward to more ideas from other schools.
