Support for small schools in East Sussex.
East Sussex Children’s Services Authority (CSA) demonstrates a strong sense of commitment to its small schools. This begins at the highest level with the Director of Children’s Services taking an active interest in promoting the professional development of all staff in small schools.
One of the most frequent comments from small schools is that training and other CPD events often do not take account of their particular needs and that the models advocated are often based on the organisational structures of much larger schools.
East Sussex recognised this problem some years ago and so they appointed a small schools adviser with an identifiable budget.
They have used this budget, with some additional funds from a beacon school, to offer a range of opportunities for teacher learning including:
