Introducing the GTC Networks.
Good teaching needs good networks and good networks need good teachers.
The GTC Networks provide support by linking teachers nationally and putting them in touch with the latest research and evidence. They let teachers have a voice at national debates on changes to education.
Getting started with peer observation: class swapping
Having been part of a very successful programme of peer observations in my previous school that was funded and supported through a Beacon School project I was disheartened at the problems I encountered trying to establish a similar system here. Funding was a major issue as we were in a deficit budget and also experienced staff were very wary and sceptical of the benefits. However class swapping focussing on sharing expertise re. supporting children's learning has allowed us to move forward. There is no supply cost involved and we are beginning to open up really constructive professional dialogue. We started from the basis of subject managers (core or foundation) swapping and feeding back. In this way we managed to keep the process very positive because each member of staff invited in an 'expert' of their choosing for a specific purpose. Staff now see peer observation as the natural next step, all I need now is the money!
