Introducing the GTC Networks.

Good teaching needs good networks and good networks need good teachers.

The GTC Networks provide support by linking teachers nationally and putting them in touch with the latest research and evidence. They let teachers have a voice at national debates on changes to education.

Peer observation using video

Brislington School (now Brislington Enterprise College) is an 11-18 comprehensive school in challenging circumstances on the outskirts of Bristol. The school has had training school status for 3 years .

Brislington school-based mentors and trainees video their lessons to reflect on later together. These videos enable the mentor to give a running commentary of the motivations that influenced externally observable decisions through the course of the lesson. When the mentor has modelled this process of reflecting out loud, the trainee is then supported to do the same thing with a video of their lesson. A Level media students have supported with some of the videoing;

One surprising spin -off has been the power of watching the videos of lessons and discussing them with the pupils involved. Teachers have found this has led to increased reflection and higher order Learning Conversations with their pupils as well as between themselves.
