The second event of the Small Schools project group, ‘Perfectly Formed’ was held in London on Friday 28 April 2006.
The aims of the day were to:
Speakers on the day included the GTC chair Judy Moorhouse, and chief executive Carol Adams. Members of the policy team spoke on current GTC policy work on personalised learning, assessment and CPD.
An interesting and informative multimedia presentation on ‘virtual leadership’ started the afternoon session. Two Staffordshire head teachers, Peter Ralley and Paul Cockcroft, showcased their collaborative work. The presentation demonstrated their use of ICT to enable their pupils to interact and learn from each other’s lessons and to go ‘virtually’ beyond the walls of the small school. Many participants indicated that they intended to pursue similar approaches and activities when they returned to their schools.
Feedback from the event suggested that one of the most helpful aspects of the day for participants was the opportunity to discuss and network with both head teachers and colleagues who are in similar positions, but work in different local authorities. Other comments suggested the events demonstrated that the GTC takes the issue of CPD in small schools seriously and that it was beneficial to work with those who can influence policy.
