Introducing the GTC Networks.

Good teaching needs good networks and good networks need good teachers.

The GTC Networks provide support by linking teachers nationally and putting them in touch with the latest research and evidence. They let teachers have a voice at national debates on changes to education.

Putting professional development principles into practice

Four schools in Wiltshire – Wootton Bassett, Malmesbury, St John’s and Bradon Forest – have been working together to embed two key principles of continuing professional development (CPD) into their NQT induction programme. These principles are:

Last year, 45 NQTs were offered sessions on cross-curricular themes. These were run by teachers with curriculum and specialist expertise from each of the schools.  The sessions took place at each of the partnership’s four schools in turn, enabling NQTs to visit other schools as well as to access specialist knowledge or observe other approaches.  Senior staff from one school visited NQTs from another, which minimised the total travel needed and provided opportunities for all staff to become familiar with the learning environment at partner schools.

Last year’s sessions included personalised learning, work with external agencies, behaviour management and use of ICT.

This year, NQTs will receive an entitlement package, access to a discussion area of the Wootton Bassett School website, links to good practice examples on video, links to Teachandlearn.net and other resources. Mentors will also have the opportunity to meet and will be pivotal in developing further online resources for NQTs.
