Introducing the GTC Networks.
Good teaching needs good networks and good networks need good teachers.
The GTC Networks provide support by linking teachers nationally and putting them in touch with the latest research and evidence. They let teachers have a voice at national debates on changes to education.
Citizenship Foundation
The Citizenship Foundation has produced a free online resource: ‘Ending Slavery: An unfinished business’.
The resource is full of background information, lesson plans, worksheets and teaching ideas. Aimed at years 9 and 10, it covers:
- the abolition of the slave trade
- the campaign to end slavery in the 18th and 19th centuries
- modern day slavery
- the role of pressure groups in influencing Parliament and decision makers.
A PDF version can be downloaded from the Ending Slavery page of the website.
The Citizenship Foundation is also developing Go-Givers, an exciting new programme for use in primary schools. It aims specifically to promote ideas of charity and empathy among 4–11 year olds through active participation.
The ‘Go-Givers’ project is a three-part website containing sections for teachers, parents and children of primary age. It is designed to be used on an interactive whiteboard and features humorous, simply written stories, which tackle issues directly affecting children.
