Refugees into Teaching
last updated:17 Aug 2009
Refugees into Teaching (RiT) is a Training and Development Agency for schools (TDA) funded project working nationally to provide support and advice for refugee teachers, including advice and help on gaining experience, requalification and employment. RiT is part of the Refugee Council, the largest refugee charity in the UK.
RiT offers a wide range of services, such as specialist advice and guidance, mentoring schemes, free assessment of overseas qualifications, a dedicated website and a variety of events. Working with schools is essential to offering 'refugee teachers' who trained overseas access to UK school experience and employment.
How can schools get involved with Refugees into Teaching?
- Offer refugee teachers placements at your school.
- Encourage teachers within your school to become mentors for refugee teachers.
- Offer refugee teachers opportunities in the wider school workforce.
- Consider supporting refugee teachers to gain QTS through employment based routes.
