One of the best known names in UK education, Professor Ted Wragg, has died following a heart attack.
He was taken ill while jogging on Sunday and died in hospital in the early hours of Thursday. He was 67.
GTC Chair Judy Moorhouse said: "Ted Wragg will be mourned by everyone in education. He was wise, witty and compassionate. Many thousands of teachers took comfort from his satirical commentaries on the education world and inspiration from his vision for children and schools."
GTC Chief Executive Carol Adams said: “Ted Wragg was one of this country’s strongest supporters of teachers, who spoke with an incisive wit about the challenges they face in the classroom today. He had an enormous influence on educational debate throughout his career.
“His death is a great loss to us all and he will be very sadly missed by everyone.”
