GTC welcomes new Children's Workforce Strategy
Fri, 27 Jan 2006 00:00:00

The Government responded to the consultation on the Children's Workforce Strategy on February 13, 2006. It announced that it would be creating a Transformation Fund of £250 million, to be invested into developing the qualifications and skills of Early Years professionals. It also announced an integrated qualifications framwework, to help improve career pathways across the Children's Workforce (27 Jan 2006).

In response Sarah Stephens, GTC Director of Policy, says:

"The GTC welcomes the emphasis on building the qualified, professional leadership of Early Years. We know from research that raising both the quality of training and the standards of qualification and skills of teachers and other professionals in the Early Years sector, makes the biggest difference to outcomes and experiences.

"We now need a greater focus on resources being invested in training and development in effective inter-professional working for professionals working with primary and secondary age young people. The GTC is currently working with other professional bodies to draw up a joint statement of values, which will guide collaborative working between teachers, social care and health professionals.”
