GTC responds to publication of primary league tables
Fri, 02 Dec 2005 16:05:39

In response to the primary school Key Stage Two tables, published today, GTC Chief Executive Carol Adams says:

"We know from our discussions with parents and from research that many parents feel that league tables are irrelevant in helping them judge how well the school is meeting the needs of their child. Yet the high stakes of testing and league tables mean that it is difficult for teachers to take a rounded approach to learning.

"We urgently need a radical overhaul of the current assessment regime and a system that really supports and measures learning."  (02 Dec 2005)
