Sarah Bowie is elected as new Vice Chair of the General Teaching Council For England
Mon, 19 May 2008 01:00:00

Founder member of the General Teaching Council, Sarah Bowie, has been elected as the Council’s new Vice Chair.

Sarah, currently a primary school supply teacher, received a majority of votes over fellow candidates Gloria Hyatt and Kirit Modi.

Commenting on her election as Vice Chair, Sarah says:

‘I am thrilled to have been chosen as Vice Chair of the GTC and I would like to thank my fellow Council members for their vote of confidence. I am looking forward to working closely with Judy Moorhouse, Chair of the Council, meeting as many teachers as possible and making sure that their views feed into our policy development work and advice to Government.

‘It is an exciting time for the GTC, with the expansion of the Teacher Learning Academy and the Networks going from strength to strength. I feel very privileged to be part of these progressive times and hope to be able to inform teachers and other stakeholders in education about the good work being done.’

GTC Chief Executive, Keith Bartley, said: ‘I would like to congratulate Sarah on her appointment to the GTC. Sarah is a very experienced teacher and Council member and I will look forward to her input especially in the area of early years education.’

Sarah was first elected onto the Council in spring 2000 and was re-elected in 2004 and 2008. Her appointment as Vice Chair will take immediate effect and run until 31 August 2009.
