GTC responds to Ofsted report on race equality in education
Wed, 23 Nov 2005 11:23:27

The Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) has produced a report which examines work on race equality in education in schools, including how schools are meeting the requirements of the Race Relations Amendment Act. The report highlights good practice in both schools and local education authorities in England (23 Nov 2005).

GTC Chief Executive Carol Adams said:

"We are a very long way from achieving race equality for all our children, so it is vital that the good practice identified in this report is spread as far and wide as possible. The GTC's Achieve network now has more than 3,000 members working to promote race equality in schools.

"We will continue to work on the complex problems that prevent some groups of black and minority ethnic children reaching their potential. Over the forthcoming months we will also be working on supporting the professional development of black and minority ethnic teachers as well as all those teachers who have a responsibility for promoting race equality in schools."
