GTC responds to new Primary Review report
Fri, 29 Feb 2008 00:00:00

The GTC has responded to the latest Primary Review Report, 'The Trajectory and Impact of National Reform: Curriculum and Assessment in English Primary Schools'.

Keith Bartley, Chief Executive, GTC England said: 'This new research report from the Primary Review underlines what we have already said repeatedly – the current testing and assessment regime is failing both pupils and teachers.

'Indeed, the system is actually producing the opposite of its intended desire to raise educational standards, as all eyes become fixed on test scores at the expense of a broad-based curriculum and the quality of how teachers and pupils interact.

'All the evidence points towards the negative impact of high stakes testing. We need to have the courage of our convictions and look at new ways of supporting and measuring pupils’ learning which allows a more positive experience for them and their teachers.'
