Commenting on the most recent reports from the Primary Review, published today 12 December 2007, GTC Chief Executive Keith Bartley said:
'The GTC welcomes the publication of these latest reports from the Primary Review, which add valuable evidence to what we know about children’s cognitive development and learning skills. The reports highlight the complexities of supporting a pupil population in which children have such a wide range of differing needs and experiences.
'I would particularly endorse the call in the Review for a renewed partnership between policy makers and practitioners. Real and lasting change is made in schools where it is led on the ground by teachers themselves. Teachers need to be invited to contribute their unique perspective and experience to policy making. They should be encouraged to innovate in the classroom in order to bring education policy and teaching practice together to address the individual needs and circumstances of their pupils.'
