The fourteenth report on teachers' pay from the School Teachers' Review Body was published. (6 Dec 2005).
In response, GTC Chief Executive Carol Adams says:
“It can be a matter of chance and luck whether teachers have access to good professional development. Significant numbers of teachers still cannot get the support they need to develop their practice.* With a closer link between the outcomes of continuing professional development (CPD) and pay progression, it is vital that all teachers have fair access to high quality development.
"We strongly endorse the Review Body’s position that CPD is integral to teacher professionalism and has a positive impact on pupils’ learning.”
* The GTC’s 2005 survey of teachers found that 20 per cent of teachers did not have their development needs met at all last year.
