The General Teaching Council for England (GTC) and Teachers’ TV have launched a new online partnership which will enable teachers to turn their viewing of Teachers’ TV programmes into a formally recognised part of their professional development (16 Jun 2006).
Using the newly developed Teachers’ TV My CPD online tool, teachers who watch Teachers’ TV can use their viewing to gain professional recognition by making a Stage One submission to the GTC’s Teacher Learning Academy (TLA).
The TLA offers public and professional recognition for teachers’ learning, development and improvement work in schools. Evidence submitted at higher stages to the TLA can also be used to gain academic accreditation, and as part of a portfolio of evidence to support, for example, applications for Excellent Teacher Status.
The free My CPD tool enables teachers and other school staff to capture online their development goals inspired by programme viewing, track their progress and work with other teachers to achieve these goals.
The resource helps teachers consolidate their learning from Teachers’ TV programmes by enabling them to create targets and to keep notes and reflections on the programmes they’ve watched. It also allows teachers across the country to browse each other’s personal goals and exchange views, information and ideas.
Carol Adams, Chief Executive of the General Teaching Council for England, said:
“The GTC is pleased to be working with Teachers’ TV on this exciting project. This will enable more teachers to get access to the GTC’s Teacher Learning Academy, which is a central part of effective CPD and school improvement, and ensure that the learning teachers derive from Teachers’ TV programmes transfers into professional and institutional improvement.”
Commenting, Andrew Bethell, Chief Executive of Education Digital, said:
“My CPD is an exciting new resource which gives the opportunity for teachers to translate viewing Teachers’ TV into a tangible contribution to professional development. The online tool is just one of an enormous of range of free resources from Teachers’ TV. If you are interested in learning, being inspired and developing your teaching career, Teachers’ TV has something for you.”
