GTC announces plans for further growth of the Teacher Learning Academy
The General Teaching Council for England has approved plans for the further growth and development of its Teacher Learning Academy (TLA), offering national access to public and professional recognition for teachers' learning, development and improvement work.
This decision means that the TLA will now be developed into a wider partnership-based national system that will extend opportunities for GTC-registered teachers to gain professional recognition through the academy. The TLA will in effect move to shared ownership through a system of national, local and school partnerships across the education system.
Since the launch of a pilot in 2004 the TLA has been created and developed with our partners for teachers and with teachers. GTC Council members have now approved this development to further support the GTC’s commitment to improving teachers’ access to high-quality professional development, contributing to high standards of teaching and learning and the standing of the teaching profession. This development is now subject to detailed business planning.
