GTC welcomes Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Bill.
Wed, 01 Mar 2006 00:00:00

Responding to today's publication of the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Bill (March 1, 2006), General Teaching Council for England (GTC) Chief Executive Carol Adams says:

"The GTC welcomes the new Bill, which proposes effective new systems to help safeguard children and other vulnerable groups.

It is vital that these systems are clear and well understood by all organisations involved in the vetting and barring process. Employers need to be made fully aware of their responsibilities and how to access the information they need, to ensure that the new arrangements successfully protect those who are most vulnerable.

The GTC will work closely with the DfES and employers to ensure that our processes for registration and regulation are correctly aligned with the new arrangements and that employers understand the requirement for qualified teachers to be registered with the GTC."
