Registration fee
In order to maintain their registration status, teachers are required to pay an annual registration fee. The fee year runs from 1 April to 31 March each year.
The current fee is £33. Due to the relatively low level of the fee the Council have determined that it would be disproportionately expensive to have a reduced fee for those teachers who work part-time hours, or who work for only part of the fee year. Therefore, all registered teachers are required to pay the full fee each year.
Special allowance
If you are employed by an LEA or maintained school undertaking specified work you will be entitled to receive a special allowance of £33 towards the cost of your registration fee. The £33 payment is based on a recommendation by the School Teachers' Review Body and so only applies to those employed under Teachers' Pay and Conditions.
Breakdown of the fee
The fee is used mainly to support regulation, registration and policy. Communicationg the GTC messages through its publications and the magazine are also financed by the fee along with other communication methods such as conferences, events for teachers, and the business of the Council and its committees.
The remainder of the fee is used for operational purposes (including administration, human resources, and premises).
