Teachers trained in either Scotland or Northern Ireland (NI) and who wish to take up a teaching post in a maintained primary, secondary or special school, or a non-maintained special school in England, must obtain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in England and be registered with the General Teaching Council for England (GTC).
If you fall into this category and wish to apply for QTS in England, then you will need to complete the appropriate application form and return it to the GTC to be processed.
You can either download the appropriate form (attached as a related page) or contact the GTC who will send you the appropriate application form.
Teachers in England are required to satisfactorily complete a statutory induction period (usually three school terms). However, if you have successfully completed the required period of probation or induction, or qualified prior 7 May 1999, you will be exempt from the induction requirement here. The GTC is the appeals body for teachers who fail their induction period.
If you require assistance in completing the application form, or have any other queries, please contact the Teachers’ Qualifications section using form attached as a related page, by e-mailing tqanswer@gtce.org.uk or by calling 0121 345 0140. The TQ Section's postal/fax contact details are also included here for reference:
