If you have ceased all teaching in a maintained school, a non-maintained special school or pupil referral unit and no longer require registration you can choose to de-register. However, you will need to remain registered if you intend to work part-time, on a temporary contract or on a supply basis. To de-register please complete a deregistration form available to download from this page.

You will need to provide the following information:
- full name (including any previous names)
- date of birth
- teacher reference number
- national insurance (NI) number
- date of last employment
- reason for de-registration (for example retiring, moving abroad or taking up a different profession)
- confirmation that you wish to de-register.
The fee year runs from the 1 April to the 31 March each year and there are no scaled fees. You if are registered during a fee year, you are required to pay the fee in full. Please see ‘How to pay the fee’.
For fully registered teachers, de-registration with the Council will not affect your qualified teacher status and you can re-register at any point by completing an application to register form.
If you are a provisionally registered trainee teacher, you are unable to change your registration status until your ITT provider has submitted your result.
