Research at the GTC

published:31 Mar 2009

The GTC commissions a small number of research projects to inform practice, policy or broader GTC work, including a national survey of teachers. It also co-funds research projects in partnership with other organisations, in order to support a collaborative approach to developing the knowledge base in education.

You can find details of current and past projects that have helped inform policy or supported practice in the section GTC commissioned research.

The GTC is also working to develop the potential of the Register of Teachers so that it can better serve research and evidence needs.

The GTC consults and engages those who have an interest in the education of children and young people, including teachers, parents, pupils, governors, other professionals and partner organisations in education. This work ensures the GTC can take account of the perspectives, concerns and experiences of its stakeholders. It builds an evidence base; both for policy advice to government and about the practice of teaching for teachers and stakeholders in education.

An important part of the GTC’s work is supporting and promoting research-informed practice in teaching. The GTC is often contacted by teachers and other stakeholders .This is one of the ways in which GTC stays informed about school-based research and enquiry projects conducted by teachers.
