Research at the GTC

last updated:31 Mar 2009

The GTC commissions research projects to inform practice, policy or broader GTC work, including a national survey of teachers. It also co-funds research projects in partnership with other organisations, in order to support a collaborative approach to developing the knowledge base in education.

You can find details of current and past projects that have helped inform policy or supported practice in the section GTC commissioned research.

The GTC consults and engages those who have an interest in the education of children and young people, including teachers, parents, pupils, governors, other professionals and partner organisations in education. This work ensures the GTC can take account of the perspectives, concerns and experiences of its stakeholders. It builds an evidence base; both for policy advice to government and about the practice of teaching for teachers and stakeholders in education.

The GTC has developed good practice criteria on stakeholder evidence to guide its role in planning, gathering and using evidence from stakeholder groups.

An important part of the GTC’s work is supporting and promoting research-informed practice in teaching.
