This month, the Research of the month team are looking at two reports from a study that investigated what happened when the literacy hour was implemented in small rural schools with mixed age classes. Teachers in single age classes will also find that there is much to interest them. The two reports are:

Both papers draw upon data collected as part of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funded research project, The Implementation of a literacy hour in small rural schools (ESRC ref. R000222606) was directed by Ros Fisher and Maureen Lewis, Rolle School of Education, University of Plymouth. Bernie Davis was Research Assistant on the project.
