Cost of the Code

published:30 Sep 2009

It is a legal requirement  that all registered teachers have a copy of the Code. We are doing this as cost efficiently as possible by including it with our regular magazine mailing.

Not least because in some quarters there has been a campaign of disinformation against the Code, we are spending some money in promoting the Code and rebutting falsehoods. There is clearly a strong public interest aspect to a code for the teaching profession; the Code sets out what the public can reasonably expect of teachers and in due course we will be promoting awareness of it more widely to the public.

We think we have now produced a document that the profession will be able to feel comfortable with and sign up to – not least because the consultation included in-depth discussions with groups of teachers, to capture their own expectations of themselves as professionals, and what they would like to see in a professional code.
