Why revise the Code?
published:30 Sep 2009
Any code needs to be kept up to date. Since the Code was first adopted in 2004, the context in which teachers work has changed significantly. For example, teachers are now required to work closely with others who work with children, such as social workers. The Code needs to be able to support teacher professionalism in this changing environment
It also needs to be relevant to all teachers, not just act as a reference document for the small minority whose conduct or competence may be in doubt. Up to now we have had two documents, a statement of professional values and practice and a separate code of conduct.
And, as we have stated above, we have taken the opportunity to create a positive document that expresses teachers’ sense of professionalism.
