Provisional registrants

published:30 Sep 2009

The Code applies to provisionally registered teachers in the same way as to those who are fully registered; it sets out the expectations that registered teachers hold of themselves and what the public can reasonably expect of them.

A disciplinary committee considering any case against a provisionally registered teacher should take into account whether the teacher has failed to comply with any of the principles of the Code, as they would for a fully registered teacher. The principles of the Code equally apply to provisional registrants, except in some cases (for example trainee teachers) who are not bound by its ‘competence’ provisions, for example because they have not yet reached the standards of a qualified teacher.

(Provisional registrants are trainee teachers, overseas trained teachers who can teach here without an English qualification and unqualified teachers.)
