TLA verifier training
Who is it for?
Everyone who wishes to act as a TLA verifier must go through the training programme. At this time priority is being given to training verifiers from our new TLA centres and TLA schools. This is in preparation for the development of the new open system for the TLA. In consequence, training places are limited at this time.
In order to be considered for the role of verifier, the TLA expects that you have:
- some familiarity with the TLA through working in a TLA school
- recent experience and knowledge of assessing teacher learning against the teacher standards (e.g. performance management reviews; NQT induction; ITT mentoring; NPQH assessment)
- experience of undertaking enquiry based learning, preferably work presented to the TLA
- a minimum level of ICT skill, which would enable you to access web-based materials and complete the relevant documentation electronically.
If you qualify to apply for training, we then expect you to:
- attend the one day training session
- complete the post-session tasks, which include a reflective evaluation and the independent verification of a Stage 1 and Stage 2 presentation (or Stage 3 presentation as appropriate)
- attend the one day folow up verification and moderation session
- have, if not already done so, completed a TLA presentation within a year
- support the TLA development in your school/organisation.
What does it involve?
The programme combines the full day training session, post-session tasks and the full day verification and moderation session. The format varies slightly depending on which Stages you are intending to verify. However, in all cases the training will equip you:
- to verify teachers’ presentations by making informed and consistent judgements against the verification criteria
- to provide teachers with developmental feedback that will enable them to re-present their work and/or build upon their achievements in future presentations
- to contribute to the development of the TLA by identifying examples of good practice, areas for improvement and any issues for concern.
Where and when is the training happening?
Dates for the Autumn Term 2008 will be published soon.

Is there any preparation I need to do before the event?
It is helpful if you have familiarised yourself with the verification criteria for the different stages prior to the training.
