Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA)
The TDA funded the development of regional school-based tutoring frameworks for initial teacher training (ITT) mentors in schools.
The TLA has worked with the TDA to align these frameworks with the TLA so that ITT mentors can gain national and professional recognition and potential for career development.
Recognition is available at Stage One for any teacher involved in the mentoring of initial teacher trainees, and at Stages Two and Three through participating universities and training schools. Submissions require evidence of work already carried out as an integral part of the professional’s role. The submission process has been especially designed to permit the evidence to be presented with the minimum amount of additional effort.
Each Stage must adopt the six core dimensions and a submission must present evidence that the relevant criteria have been addressed:
- engagement with an appropriate knowledge base
- access to peer support, coaching and/or mentoring
- planning of a professional teacher learning project
- implementation of the plan
- evaluation of the impact of the teacher learning project
- dissemination of what has been learned.
Optional academic accreditation through partnerships with some higher education institutions will also be available through the partnership.
