Benefits for verifiers

For all teachers becoming TLA Verifiers, there are benefits both for themselves and for their schools. These benefits are outlined in this section.

What are the personal benefits for someone becoming a TLA Verifier?

As a trained TLA Verifier you will:

  • support your own professional learning and development
  • have access to a range of excellent practice from teachers around the country
  • play a significant part in supporting the development of fellow professionals both in your school and across the country
  • play an important role in the quality assurance vital to the credibility of the TLA
  • be able to contribute to the ongoing development of the TLA

What are the benefits for a school in having a trained TLA Verifier?

By having a trained TLA Verifier, your school will:

  • have a new source of knowledge about effective practice and professional learning
  • build your capacity to establish the TLA within your school
  • meet one of the criteria required to become a TLA School or TLA Centre
  • receive payment for each verification it carries out in the TLA Open System

What do TLA Verifiers tell us about their experience of the role?

Some of the feedback existing verifiers have given the TLA about their experience :

‘I have been a verifier now for some time and feel that the process has many benefits for my own professional development and that of the school. It allows me to share some of the wonderful work that is taking place within the teaching profession and acknowledge all the hard work and reflection that teachers are undertaking.’

‘I have found verification to be a really interesting process, reading through fascinating accounts of pioneer developments in schools or individuals’ real learning insights, which the TLA structure has helped to facilitate.’

‘Having the opportunity to read presentations gives an insight into the action research taking place but also is an opportunity to support and encourage colleagues through the feedback. Where else can you read cutting edge research and have the chance to praise and encourage the writer instantly? A brilliant concept.’

‘It has been really exciting reading about other teachers’ research and giving professionals guidance on ways they can improve or congratulating them on a job well done. It is great to be able to acknowledge other professionals’ hard work’

‘Verifying TLA submissions has been an invigorating process; reading about the ways in which teachers have learned and developed through undertaking their learning journey. Reading about the benefits they have gained from working closely and reflectively with a coach or mentor has revealed to me just how significant the impact of CPD and TLA can be. All of this has given me insights and ideas that enable me to keep abreast of professional issues and practice.’

‘As a verifier it is great to be valued and to read about the fantastic work being done across the country by teachers. It is nice to feel part of a learning community, part of a group who value teachers’ continuing learning.’
