Description:
Formerly known as the Secondary Heads Association (SHA). A professional association for members of the leadership team and senior staff in secondary schools and colleges.

Review:
The site has sections on guidance and policy, professional development, and responses to consultation documents. There are links to international associations for school heads and principals. Publications can be purchased online. (Please note all review comments refer to SHA website, reviewed in September 2004)

Navigation:
Basic site, easy to navigate.

Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL)

Description:
The ATL is TUC-affiliated trade union and professional association representing teachers and lecturers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Review:
This is a good information resource about ATL's stance on a wide range of topics and policies. The members only section provides access to personal advice and support from a network of local and national officials, while the A-Z advice section offers help on everything from accidents at school to coping with assessments.

Navigation:
Easy, but many areas are members only.

Teachers and lecturers.

With a membership of over 30,000, the National Association of Head Teachers is the largest organisation of its kind in Europe.

Review:
Regular news updates on NAHT policy are a strong feature of this website. Also offers advice to members and downloadable policy documents.

Description:
NASUWT is the only TUC affiliated teachers' union representing teachers and head teachers in all parts of the UK.

Review:
An accessible website detailing the Union's perspective on the latest education developments across the UK. As well as details about how to join the Union, there are good sections covering pay, pensions, plus a very good section targeted at NQTs.

Navigation:
Very good indeed.

The National Union of Teachers is committed to the promotion and recognition of the professionalism of teachers.

Review:
The site sets out the NUT's view on every government initiative, and includes useful updates on areas such as teachers' pay and conditions, health and safety at work and teachers' pensions. Also provided are details about professional development as well as an overview of services the NUT offers members.
